A weekend in Setúbal

Two slow days: city, market, castle on day one; Tróia or Azeitão on day two. A long dinner each night. Hotel in the old town.

Season: Year-round. Spring and early autumn are best.

    2 hours from the marina: pass Portinho, almost certainly see dolphins, back along the channel. Book ahead in summer.

    15-min drive to Vila Nogueira. Queijadas at Oliveira, guided tasting at José Maria da Fonseca or Bacalhôa.
