The Livramento municipal market has been Setúbal's food heart since 1876. The current building, from 1930, is famous for the sweeping azulejo panels by Américo dos Santos Silva that clad the interior walls — fishing scenes, the grape harvest, the city seen from the hills.
The fish side reads like a map of the bay: cuttlefish (choco), sea bream, sole, black scabbardfish straight from the auction, octopus. The produce side tracks the peninsula's farms — oranges from Palmela, apples from Azeitão, olive oil. Inside, a handful of stalls and bars will cook the fish you just saw.
Best window: 08:30–10:00, Tuesday to Saturday — the catch has just arrived and the Sunday crowds haven't yet. Free to enter, no booking, and absolutely where a day in Setúbal should start.
