Moving to Setúbal

Setúbal neighbourhoods

Troino and historic downtown — the old fishermen's quarter around the market, narrow streets, tascas, 18th- and 19th-century buildings under restoration. Ideal if you want to walk everywhere. Limited parking. Two-bed rents: €700–1000/month.

Avenida Luísa Todi and surroundings — the central spine, with shops, restaurants, schools, and more modern lift-equipped buildings. More family-friendly, easier parking. Two-bed rents: €750–1100/month.

Azeitão and the Palmela border — 10–15 km from the city, more rural residential areas, houses with gardens, good for families with children. Car required. Three-bed with garden rents: €1000–1500/month; buying is far more accessible than equivalent Lisbon zones.

Tróia — across the estuary by ferry. Resort and apartments at the northern tip. Nearly dormant outside summer — not really meant for permanent residency, but an option for a weekend or second home. Ferry-dependent.

Compared with Lisbon: for the same budget, Setúbal typically gives you 20–30 m² more or a balcony with a view. The trade-off is commute — Fertagus train to Roma-Areeiro in ~55 min; trains fill at rush hour.
